February has been pretty cold here in London and so I’ve not really ventured out to sketch. Instead, I have embraced sketching small and the everyday items around me.
This month, I have also been reading some fantastic books by established and amazing Urban Sketchers. If you are new to Urban Sketching or want to give it a try, I highly recommend any books or courses by Marc Taro Holmes. You can find his blog, ‘Citizen Sketcher’ here – It really is a worth of information and amazing sketches!
One of my key take-aways from Marc is to keep my sketching kit light – Platinum Carbon Fountain Pen, Kuretake Sumi Brush Pen and a Mechanical Pencil. He explains as a beginner it is more important to draw as often as you can i.e. think about quantity over quality initially. As much as I love watercolour and colour in general, I’ve decided to go back to basics and just focus on sketching regularly with my minimal sketching kit.
Thanks for the info. I’ll definitely check out some of those resources!
